IS THERE any reason why the boss should earn more than a subordinate? Arnold Handley, writing in Body, published by the Vehicle Builders' and Repairers' Association, appears to think not.
He says: "A really skilled craftsman susses out that he could earn more by setting up his own business then finds that instead of profiting from the talent in his hands, he is bogged down with the inevitable business paperwork.
"If only we could throw away our illogical ideals [sicj of status, then that craftsman could stay in his workshop and employ a poorly paid professional to 'boss' the business. I mean, there is no skill in it. All you need is to enjoy ordering people about!"
Aspiring owner-driver hauliers might ponder those words.
