FITTERS are putting their lives at risk if they carry dis)osable butane cigarette Lighters in a workshop, accorling to the Road Haulage 1,ssociation.
Northern Area secretary Denis LeConte has warned nembers that a butane lighter hich explodes is estimated to lo so with a force equal to ;everal sticks of dynamite.
He quotes two fatal iccidents which occurred vhen fitters carried lighters in heir pockets when they were ising welding equipment.
In the first, a spark from a velder landed on a lighter in he fitter's shirt pocket. It mrned through the case, and he lighter exploded, killing nin instantly.
The other fitter died soon .fter a lighter exploded in his rouser pocket and blew off a g.
