The " Aslicroft " combination valve grinder and drill, which has recently been introduced by Brown Bros.. Ltd.. of Great Eastern Street, is a very handy and compact Tool; it may be pressed into service for all kinds of repair work in connection with motor vehicles. We reproduce a view of this device, which may be used for the grinding in of poppet valves, for which purpose the spindle is given an oscillating motion with the arc of oscillation gradually advancing in a clockwise direction; by this means. grooving or cutting of the valve faces is avoided. The same foul may be used as a breast drill, or as a -ratchet for cutting in either direction.

Although primarily this company caters for the requirements of motorcyclists and the owners of small cars and voiturettes, we do not doubt that a number of its specialities will appeal strongly to the user of commercial-motor vehicles. A valve-grinding tool, known as the " Clair," is perhaps one of the best-known specialities for
which Lyell's are responsible. The •' Clair " special form of silencer, too, is a component which, in its various sizes, has earned good opinions for itself. This company's catalogue provides interesting reading.

The Drummond universal machine—a daring cow. bination—is a workshop in itself, and embodies in its compact design the duties of five machines; yet it is offered at a price not much in excess of a milling machine of the same capacity.
