Pressure is growing on Whitefriar International from subcontractors claiming overdue payments. Jennifer Ball reports.

WHITEFRIAR International is facing more claims over alleged non-payment of bills after a second out-of-pocket subcontractor came forward.

Paul Mortimer from Fiirmingham-based Mortimer Transport claims he is owed £3.000 by White friar for work dating back to Christmas.

Last week CM reported how Staffordshire-based subcontractor Nick Blurton is claiming £15,000 from the Kent-based logistics firm for work dating back to last October on its Stok Continental Services contract.

Whitefriar told him it couldn't pay as it had not been paid by Stok. Blurton has been forced to sell his three trucks and is facing eviction (CM 12 February).

Mortimer says he has been given the same excuse as Blurton: "1 only worked for Whitefriar for a few weeks but was relying on the money from this contract to fund another truck. I was told that I would be paid within three to four weeks but have not been paid anything. I have stopped working for them and now work for Norfolk Line."

Mike Thompson from NA friar maintains that the con. is no longer working for Sto' However, he believes the company will be paid v weeks, which will allow it to f subcontractors.
