THE TWO VEHICLES operated by Carmarthen-based RE Owen & Sons have been suspended for four days because a truck was illegally moved after the imposition of an S-marked immediate prohibition for a significant maintenance failure.

The firm had been called before Welsh Deputy Traffic Commissioner Roger Seymour at a Llanelli disciplinary inquiry.

Vehicle examiner Andrew Rustage reported that the vehicle had been stopped during Operation Mermaid on the Carmarthen bypass. It had a leaking brake pipe due to a faulty repair and one of the cab steps was missing.The vehicle should not have been moved but it was tato the firm's maintenance contractors.

The driver, Philip Owen,agreed that he had signed the prohibitior that he did not have permission to mov vehicle. He said the garage had come ou had fitted the wrong pipe. Partner Ric Owen said the firm had been in husine5 50 years with no previous problems. missing step had been cracked and had I removed for repair.

Suspending the licence, the DTC sail firm had accepted that it was at fault.
