Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

By utilizing a standard chassis, the Bedford KGT tipper, Jones Cranes have achieved a new standard in the production of fast-travel cranes. Savings in cost when compared with a specially built crane carrier have, it is claimed. enabled substantial improvements to be embodied in the machine both in quality and performance, without any increase in the price.

When built for its role as a crane carrier the KGT Bedford is known as the KGTC5 and incorporates a fullpower p.t.-o. which is carried on an extended gearbox spigot shaft and which runs at engine speed. The unit is a " sandwich" construction, being fitted between the clutch and gearbox and capable of running at continuous full power.

The drive for the crane is taken through a propeller shaft to a central vertical shaft through the crane base, from where the various drives for lifting, luffing and slewing the crane are carried mechanically to their destinations. The fact that the drive is fully mechanical is said to be an advantage.

Available in two forms, the KL 3-7 can be had with either a strut jib or a cantilever jib. The first can be extended from 30 ft. by increments of 9 ft. to a length of 66 ft. and can be fully opera

tional at this length in under an hour from the time that it arrives on the site. The second has a jib of 40 ft. which is carried on the road in a folded condition. This can be put into operation in less than 10 minutes from the time that the outfit arrives at the site.

Capable of lifting 7 tons, slewing in a continuous full circle and running at speeds up to and in excess of 45 m.p.h. on the road, the Fleetmaster, as it is called, sells at under £6,500. R.D.C.
