Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A family-run waste collection and recycling firm has become a "telematics millionaire" by using Minorplanet's VMI system.

Kent-based Erlth Haulage has been using the system since December 2000 on 25 of its vehicles: seven 32-tanners, a 12.5-tonner and seventeen 17.5-tonners.

General manager Paul Dunsford says overtime claims have fallen by 12,000 a week and engine idling has almost been eliminated, saving more than £1,000 a month. Indirect savings have also been achieved by not having to increase the Workforce; Dunsford says these amount to another £182,400 a year.

"Productivity has gone through the roof, yielding an additional 118,000 per week," he adds. "We are now seeing savings and profits up by Just over a million pounds every year."

In addition, says Dunsford, customer service has been enhanced: "We now have the ability to prove to our site agents and buyers the actual time of our arrival. It also helps us to monitor which sites are delaying our drivers, therefore allowing us to charge fairly."
