Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

of ordinary diesel and not the "ultra-low-sulphur diesel" marketed in the UK as Greenergy City Diesel and Sainsbury's City Diesel respectively

City Diesel has the highest lubricity standard of any diesel available in the UK. For lubricity, Greenergy sides unequivocally with the requirements of the engine manufacturers.

The motor industry requires a 400 micro meters maximum scar rate as tested by the HFRR method. Greenergy guarantees a level no higher than this but typically achieves 350 micro meters (the lower the number the better the lubricity protection). This level, by the way, is even better than levels seen in most of the old high-sulphur diesel fuels.

At present the oil industry does not guarantee lubricity but is discussing a compromise with the ACEA of 450 micro meters.

There are unconfirmed (but probably real) problems in the field today related to the use of ordinary low-sulphur diesel in the UK. Recent field measurements of ordinary diesel lubricity in Germany have shown that oil companies have supplied diesel with a scar rate as high as 550 micro meters-it is likely that the same has occurred in the UK.
