• Freed from the old Milk Marketing Board's rigids-only policy, Lancaster operator Si Bargh is using a 2+2 artic tanker combination with Dennison positive steer on the trailer to service a contract with MD Foods.

Using a rear-steer axle and front lifter, the 22,50014 Clayton Commercials milk tanker can collect from farms that were inaccessible to conventional artics. The new rig can carry out its 25-call round in just two loads a day, compared to three using 16,00014 4x2s. Dennison's positive-steer system is said to fit any make of trailer, operating mechanically from fifth-wheel and rear-axle turntables.

O Clayton Commercials has supplied Linkman with 11 general-purpose tankers capable of carrying products up to 150°C.

The stepped tankers have hydraulically driven cargo pumps and airlines for pressure discharge. Other features include vapour recovery, safety handrail and on-board emergency spillage kit.
