Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The commercial-vehicle section of the Berlin Motor Show, opens its doors to The public to-day (Thursday), and this division will remain open until Sunday night next, The pleasure-car and other sections have been open since the sth instant, but German manufacturers are of opinion that a shorter period is ample for the purposes of the heavy 'branch of the industry.

Advices from our Berlin correspondent indicate that the exhibition will be of considerable interest to visitors, and that it is likely to be well patronised, but that few departures or novelties of a startling character are likely to be exposed to the public gaze. No British manufacturer appears to have taken space, but several of the leading French and Swiss makes are represented, either directly or through agents.

The German exhibitors include : Adam Opel, of Russelsheirn (light delivery vans); Siemens and Schuckert, of Berlin (new petrol-electric system); Sun Motoren-Gesellschaft, of Berlin (two petrol lorries); Stoewer Brothers, of Stettin (van lorry and omnibus chassis, the last-named with Morse chains); Argus Motoren-Gesellschaft, of Berlin (lorries); Bergmanns-Elektrizitatswerke, of Berlin (chain-driven electric chassis, with chain sprocket behind driving wheels, and using new Edison battery); Berliner Motorwagenfabrik, of Berlin (particulars not advised); Bielefelder Maschinenfabrik (Diirkopp lorry and omnibus chassis); Cyclop Maschinenfabrik, of Berlin (electricallypropelled tricars); Heinrich Ehrhardt, of Dusseldorf (chain-driven petrol lorries); Sliddeutsche Automobil Fabrik, of Gaggenau) one 3-ton lorry, one 5ton lorry, and one omnibus for St. Petersburg, all propelled by internalcombustion engines); H. Bussing, of Brunswick (the large single-deck omnibus which was in the recent German Trials, and one 6-ton tractor with trailer); Hannoversche MaschinenbauGesellschaft, of Hanover (a Stoltz steam lorry, and a Stoltz omnibus); K. Klevesahl, of Berlin (an ambulance wagon); Milner Elektromobil-Werke, of Köln (cab and lorry); Eahrzenfabrik Eisenach, of Eisenach (chain-driven

petrol lorries with special rear spring suspension); North German Motor Company, of Berlin (electrical vehicles under Krieger license); Adler Motor Company (cab, vans, hotel omnibus, and lorries); and Nordeutsche Automobil and Motoren-Gesellschaft, of Bremen (electric ambulancefor the City of Bremen).

American machines will be shown by Otto Pape, of Berlin (Pope-Toledo vehicles), and the Bayerisches AutomobilHaus, of Munich (Buick motors).

An interesting electrically-driven tricar is shown by Victor Harborn, of Berlin, whose " B.E.F." vehicle is illustrated herewith, The price, inclusive of batteries, 1S £142 los., and it is stated that this small carrier can travel so miles on a single charge, with a load of cwt. and a top speed of t6m.p.h. The principal Swiss exhibit is by Saurer, of Arbon, whilst the Safir Automobilfabrik, of Zurich, the Orion Company, and the Motorwagenfabrik Arbenz, are also to support the show.

The Neue Automobil-Gesellschaft shows : one 3-ton, I8-2oh.p. lorry ;

" D.D." bus, for Russia, with 263oh.p. engine; an open omnibus with cross seats arranged in tiers; two TOI2h.p. vans; and one electric .cab, this being the first electric vehicle by this well-known electrical company.

The Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft, of Marienfelde, is showing a new 5-ton

model, with 35h.p. engine suspended at three points. The new carburetter (illustrated by us on the 29th August last) is fitted.. This model is of entirely new pattern, and embodies this maker's latest ideas in design. The -back axle is now free to swing in all ways without twisting the perch bars, and the latter are now universally jointed and meet at the forward end, thus giving a threepoint connection. The weight of the unsprung parts has been reduced, but all the parts are stronger. The Daimler exhibits a 28h.p. omnibus for 21 passengers ; 22h.p. military lorry for 3i tons; and a 17h.p. one-ton van. It is likely that this stand will prove the most attractive.
