Stonethrowers: the hidden danger on the UK's bridges

.I'he following comment was posted on Roadtransport.com/lorryerimeblog in response to the news that a 47-year old man, who was a passenger in a recovery truck, had died following a collision with an HGV after stones were thrown at the vehicle. A 10-year old was subsequently arrested on suspicion of manslaughter but was released on bail following questioning.

TI-US IS AN ABSOLUTELY tragic case with regard to both the death and the age of the alleged offender. The Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) have for a number of years worked with schools that are close to the Midlands network and the incidence of these offences is low in our area.

Stonethrowing offences arc treated with the utmost urgency and tend to be restricted to specific overbridges, usually in close proximity to a school or playing field. There's no easy answer, other than to hammer home the consequences of stone throwing to children and target the hotspot areas.
