Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LACK OF INVESTMENT in roads is being blamed for the closure of a distribution centre in Dorset with the loss of 580 jobs.

Fashion retailer New Look plans to transfer the operation from Weymouth to Newcastleunder-Lyme, Staffs, in a year's time. The new site is also expected to take over the work of New Look's other depot, in Doncaster, when a contract with Wincanton ends in 18 months.

Clothing distribution specialist DTS Logistics based in North London, is believed to have won the contract to run the Newcastle site.

Malcolm Williams, regional officer for the United Road Transport Union, says 60 of its members will be affected by the closure. -When you look at the geography of New Look's high street stores, Weymouth is in the wrong place,he says. But its biggest problem is the road infrastructure. There are three bottle-neck roads there."

Local business leaders say this shows how failure to invest in the local road network costs j obs.

But a spokesman for New Look says its "centre of gravity" is to the north of Birmingham so it made sense to be more central. The company has promised to help staff with relocation or new local jobs.
