It seemed there was no divine intervention to be had when poor Sister Virtus, of the Sisters of the Daughter of Divine Love, nodded off on a London bus. For the somnolent nun had gone on one stop beyond the zone on her Travelcard and was duly prosecuted for fare dodging by the zealous company.
In court, the sister was given a conditional discharge. Her lawyer, Cosmas Anyakudo, called the decision "high handed" and now junior transport minister Lord Whilly has told the Lords that ministers are "making enquiries" into the case.
Perhaps Sister Virtus does have Friends in high places after all!
