RATHER cautiously worded Government statement last week implied that the pay !eze should apply to the salaries of Mr. Frank ousins, leader of the Transport and General 'orkers' Union, and Mr. Sidney Green, general cretary of the National Union of Railwaymen. Mr. Arthur Lewis (Labour, West Ham North) anted out in the Commons that the Government id prevented busmen, policemen, seamen and hers from receiving pay increases agreed bere the standstill, and suggested that similar Mon should be taken with the increases to the :neral secretaries of the two unions.
"The Government attaches great importance the standstill as set out the White Paper :Mg observed in all cases", replied Mrs. Shirley iilliams, Parliamentary Secretary to the Einistry of Labour.
