DIM/ATE carriers in India will be allowed greater freedom if recommendations of the transport planning study group for the expansion of road transport are accepted. One of the recommendations understood to have been made by the group, which was set up by the Indian Government in December, 1953, is a 20 per cent. reduction in Central and State taxation on motor vehicles.

The group have suggested that a production target of 10,000-12,000 lorries a year, over and above those required for replacement, should be aimed at during the next few. years.
