C. A. Vandervell and Co., Warple Way, Acton Vale, London, W., have asked us to contradict the rumour, that has gained circulation, that the War Department has taken over the entire control of their works, both at .Acton and Birmingham, for munition purposes. Although this company is very busy carrying out extensive contracts for the Government, they are i meeting, so far as s possible, ordinary civilian de elands. They have recently completed and opened a still further extension of their works at Acton, so that the total area now covered by the firm's factories is just over seven acres.

Barimar Welding.

It is seldom, nowadays, that a commercial-vehicle user findsit necessary to replace a component part of his vehicle which may be damaged, unless, as is not often the case, it is damaged beyond recognition. More often than not he finds that the damaged component can be effectively repaired by a satisfactory welding process at a much lower cost than would be possible if the part which had suffered was replaced. The renewal of such parts as a cylinder, back-axle, gearbox crank chamber or shaft is at all times an expensive matter, while if the vehicle concerned represents an early form of construction, it is very often impossible to obtain the necessary renewal part from stock or, for that Matter, at all.

If the broken part could not be satisfactorily repaired, it would very often be found necessary to make a special casting which would, of course, necessitate a long delay.

A concern whose efforts are devoted to the repair of damaged component parts and whose process calls for high praise is Barimar, Ltd., 10, Poland Street, Oxford Street, London, W. Aluminium repairs are a SA eciality.

The illustration we reproduce herewith is a representative example of the class of work undertaken by the company. It shows an aluminium gearbox which was badly smashed, and which was subsequentlY repaired by the Barimar process. It would have cost about 225 to replace this component, whilst the actual cost of the repair effected by this welding process was only 24 10s., moreover the repair was carried out and the -component delivered within, two days.

All work accepted by Barimar, Ltd., is taken on the "no cure no pay" basis, which is certainly a fair method of transacting business—a method which should appeal to commercial-vehicle users of all classes.

The organization of the weeks of this company is such that allwork undertaken can be handled with facility, .whilst urgent orders can be carried out with the minimum. of delay.
