Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

We are able to reproduce a recent photograph of the latest type of Viennese electric battery-fitted buses. •A good many attempts have been made in the past to solve the seating-accommodation problem for double-deck motorbuses. Not a few of these have been tried in this country, but as types, the char-abane,. the double-deck London type motorbus, and the single-decker, either with cross or fore and aft seats, have become the standards for conditions as we know them. Variation in double-deck design is, of course, very strictly limited for London, especially in view of the fact that the Scotland Yard authorities look with disfavour on the use of a covered type for these self-propelled units.

The latest Viennese model is an interesting illustration of the manner in which passengers can be effectively stowed if licensing restrictions with regard to side entrancds and covered tops be removed. This battery bus, it will be seen, employs a well and a dipped frame, and illustrations herewith show the seating arrangements. It is obvious that this class of construction, whilst admittedly ingenious, is expensive and certainly heavier than the types with which we are familiar.

New Tire Sizes for Old.

The new British standard rim sizes for solid-rubber tires have already been listed in some detail in our issue-for 22nd Slily. Too mach insistence cannot be placed upon the importance of makers and sellers of vehicles, as well as of users, becoming familiar, so soon as possible, with thenew ratings: . To facilitate reference as between the overall tire sizes, with which we are all familiar, and the new standard rim sizes which are to take their places, we publish the following specially-arranged list.

A List of Solid Tires Made to Fit British Standard Wheel Rims.

The sizes are shown in the first column under the new method of marking as recommended by the Engineering Standards Committee and in the second column are given the corresponding old nominal markings :—
