Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The possible closure of Alconbury truckstop angers the PDA, which has set up a petition to preserve the and for secure parking. Chris Tindall reports.

[TIE PROFESSIONAL Drivers tissociation (PDA) has organised petition against the closure of Vightowl Alcon bury truckstop ifter Commercial Motor revealed t was in the process of being sold hr warehousing.

The lobbying group says it notests "officially and most trongly" against the plans to sell the popular truckstop, which has been accommodating up to 240 drivers a night for the past 15 years.

Last month we reported that the 10-acre site was under offer with a price tag of £5m (CM 29 March).

A statement on the PDA website says:"The [FDA] has read a report in Commercial Motor stating that the Nightowl Truck Stop. Alcon bury, has been sold and there are plans afoot to use this land for warehousing. There is already a dreadful shortage of secure overnight parking for LGV drivers in Cambridgeshire, and indeed throughout the country."

The PDA's Pat Nicholson says the protest already has the support of the Freight Transport Association and she hopes that signatures gathered from operators and drivers at Peterborough Truckfest will convince Huntingdonshire District Council that the land must be retained for secure parking: "If they won't listen, then we'll look at taking it further. We will register our horror at what's going on first before [the site] is used for warehousing."

Nightowl director Kenneth Donald was unavailable for comment as CM went to press.
