Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• London Buses has won the London Regional Transport contract to operate the new midibus network in Orpington, Kent.

It has also added a service currently operated by independent Crystals to the new six-route network which will start in August with a fleet of 25 to 30-passenger vehicles.

London Buses will require 25 midis for the service and is discussing a working agreement for them with trades unions. A decision on the type of vehicles to be purchased is expected within a week.

The tender package also includes six conventional bus routes. Of these, London Buses won four, independent Metrobus and NBC subsidiary London Country one each.

London Country will take over 18-bus route 51 which links Woolwich with the Orpington area.

Metrobus is buying 13 ex

London Daimler Fleetlines for its share of the network. It already operates three double-deckers on local bus work.

Directors Gary Wood and Peter Larking told CM "We are very pleased to have won the contract."

They had submitted three proposals for the route, one involving the operation of new Leyland Olympian doubledeckers, one involving a new fleet of high-capacity singledeck Bedford YMT buses, or one using second-hand buses.

Their proposal for the operation of 71 passenger Bedfords was priced at the same rate as the secondhand double-decker submission which LRT accepted.

• London Country has set up an operating base for its Borehamwood and Hampstead, London minibus operations at Scratchwood service area on the MI.
