From a Special Correspondent

THE overall length of 42 ft. for articulated vehicles, proposed by the Ministry of Transport to replace the existing 35 ft. limit, may, I understand, be subject to a new stipulation. The Ministry is believed to be in favour of setting a separate length limitation of 36 ft. for the semi-trailer itself within the overall dimension of'42 ft. for the coupled outfit.

This will almost certainly meet opposition from certain sections of the industry, notably operators of car transporters, many of whom have their semitrailers built with front overhang of the top deck. over the cab, to within about 2 ft. of the extreme front of the vehicle, The re-submission of the National Road Transport Federation's comments on the vehicle weights and dimensions proposals, reported in last week's issue, is expected to be made today, or possibly at the beginning. of next week. The N.R.T.F, will be submitting its comments in writing and is not seeking a further meeting with the Ministry at present. The draft comments have now been seen and commented upon by committee members and, I understand, one of the items which may be dropped is the request for 14 tons as a weight limit for twin-oscillating axles.
