COMB1NED effect of the speed limit being raised to 40 m.p.h. and the opening of new motorways was to enable coach excursions to travel farther afield in one day, said Mr. J. Bennett, when he presented an application by Rigbys Ltd., Patricroft, at Manchester last week.

The company wished to renew its Eccles and Swinton licences and incorporate 54 additional circular and day tours, to be operated from March to October. An objection by the North Western Road Car Co. Ltd. was withdrawn but the company suggested that the Southport And Speke Hall excursion should be subjected to Order No. 9.

The Chairman of the North Western Traffic Commissioners, Maj.-Gen. A. F. J. Elmslie, asked for timings of the London Airport tour. He pointed out that this must finish before midnight or else it would become a two-day tour. The drivers' hours regulations must also be observed. Mr. Bennett replied that Rigbys would employ two drivers on a journey of this length, and was hoping that the application would provide a larger variety of destinations.

The decision was reserved as the Chairman wished to consider the fares schedules and the proposed timings. However, he said that the Southport and Speke Hall excursion would not have the Order No. 9 restrictions.
