Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Rotherham haulier Transeurope Distribution ceased tadMg on :Monday and a liquidator is calling a creditors' meeting with a view to winding it up.

The company has laid off its 18 staff and returned 10 leased trucks and 20 trailers. Several small hauliers look likely to be owed thousands of pounds.

Transeurope's main work involved the distribution of soft drinks for Huddersfield-based Benjamin Shaw Soft Drinks, which bottles mineral water for Safeway, Asda and Kwik Save.

One source says: "It was the job John Dee operated before it went into administration. Transeurope took it over and tried to make it work, but it appears to have failed too."

Company directors Alfred Reed and Cohn Edgley have

called in Langley & Partners to hold the creditors' meeting on 6 October.

Cumnock-based haulier John Baird says Transeurope owes him £3,000, but he suspects others are owed much more and is not expecting to recover his losses. "In June the company started stalling on payments, asking me to resubmit invoices. That's when I smelled a rat and got out. Other operators are still working the contract—I doubt they've been paid either."

Benjamin Shaw's fleet manager Alan Kitching says Transeurope handled a fair bit of the company's distribution but he does not yet know what will happen to the contract.
