Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The IRTE and SMMT have abandoned plans to stage a joint Commercial Vehicle Show in 1998. Despite months of negotiation the organisations failed to agree on the arrangements.

Alan Stroud, chief executive of 1RTE says: "We believe a joint show would benefit the industry and are disappointed the complications have proved intractable. In the interests of clarifying our future plans it was felt sensible not to prolong negotiations indefinitely."

Ernie Thompson, SMMT chief executive adds: "We still believe a joint show has many benefits and we cannot rule out a resumption of negotiations at some future date."

Meanwhile the SMMT's 1998 Commercial Vehicle Show will be at the NEC, Birmingham from 24-26 February 1998. IRTEls Transport Engineering Show will take place at Telford from 13-15 May.
