THE latest version of the Rootes three' cylinder, two-stroke diesel engine— the 3D.215, which produces a maximum of 135 b.h.p.—introduced for the Commer Maxiload is now available as an option for the Commer 12-ton tractive unit. When this higher-power engine is fitted, the model is also supplied with five-speed synchromesh gearbox, Eaton two-speed rear axle and Air-Pak brake servo, and the maximum gross train weight is 18.75 tons. The Luxury-Plus cab introduced as standard for the Maxiload is also available now as an option on he I2-ton tractive unit and on heavy-duty 7and 8-tormers.

The list price of the 12-ton tractive unit with the bigger engine and other changes quoted is £1,806. Extra for the LuxuryPlus cab is £60.
