IVIINISTERS of Transport from 18

European countries, including . the United Kingdom, will either take part or he represented, together with economists and representatives of the transport industry; in an international Symposium on Transport Economics, to be held at Strasbourg from October 5 to 9 inclusive. Mr. Marples will be represented by Lord Chesharn, Parliamentary Secretary.

The discussion has been jointly organized by the European Conference of Ministers of Transport, the Council of Europe and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development to consider the theory and practice of transport economics as part of a study of general .transport policy.

In this "Economic Symposium ", series of topics will be discussed by groups of experts, with an economist acting as rapporteur for each group. On the last day, with Ministers of Transport present, the findings of the groups will be brought together for discussion.

This will be a truly international occasion. The discussions on the present state of theory concerning transport economics will be chaired by a senior Belgian civil servant; the rapporteur will be a German professor; and Swiss, Italian, American and Swedish economists will lecture. Another group will be under the chairmanship of a British economist, will have a Dutch rapporteur, and Will beaddressed In. French, Dutch, German and Italian lecturers.
