Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

weigh unit, which will be exhibited by Atkinson's of Clitheroe Ltd. on Stand 132. With the aid of the jacks, the body can be mounted on the vehicle chassis or demounted in a few minute's and this should particularly appeal to the merchant who is unable to employ a vehicle full time on delivery work.

The demountable tanker will be additional to a new, aluminium-bodied, auxiliary-engined, moving-floor transporter designed for the carriage of solid fuels and other free-flowing materials and which is described as a triple-purpose bulk tanker by virtue of the three methods of discharge provided by the equipment. A pneumatic pipe line may be employed, the material may be discharged by an hydraulically-powered boom conveyor or the autoweigh bagging method may be used. Materials in lumps of up to 2 in. diameter can be discharged pneumatically at rates up to 50 tons per hour to a height of 60 ft. at a distance of 300 ft., whilst the boom conveyor can handle material in lumps up to 6 in. diameter at rates up to 70 tons per hour. The boom stockpiles up to 10 ft. high, 16 ft. from the rear of the tanker. The tanker, 20 ft. long, will be mounted on an A.E.C. Marshal chassis.

As in the past, technicalities of tippingvehicle interest will mainly relate to the suitability of the ram gear for combining with the particular chassis and body to which it is applied, but a new type of gear at the Show will be of special note because of the principle of operation. To be exhibited by Reynolds Boughton Engineering Services Ltd. on Stand 52, an Ampli-Lift tipping gear. designed by the French Bennes Marrel company, comprises a single-ram underbody gear which is incorporated in a stabilizer, the lower end of which is slidably mounted on the

main chassis members. In the case of the unit displayed, the gear has a lifting capacity of 20 tons and can tip to an angle of 64'. In effect, the system provides the advantages of a separate stabilizer with the least complication and weight penalty.

ACONSOLIDATION of existing design trends and, in the case of single-deckers, adaptation of underfioor-engined bus and coach body designs to fit new rear-engined chassis is the trend which will be evident at this year's Show. Coach bodies exhibited are likely to be modified versions of proven models rather than striking new designs. Two names will be missing from the list of p.s.v. body exhibitors—Kenex and Yeates„ the former now merged with Martin Walter and the latter no longer building bodywork—whilst two newcomers will be Pennine Coachcraft Ltd. and M.H. Coachworks Ltd.

One of the buses from the second contract of Daimler Fleetlines for Belfast Corporation will be the M.H. Coachworks exhibit, to be seen on the Daimler stand (60), and it is believed that this will be the first occasion on which an Ulster-built bus will appear at the Show. The 77-seat bodywork employs framing supplied by Metal Sections Ltd.. Oldbury, and extensive use is made Of plastics and laminates to provide a bright and durable interior finish. Pennine Coachcraft, Stand 47, is the former coachbuilding department of Seddon Diesel Vehicles Ltd., now formed into a separate company and exhibiting for the first time in its own right. The p.s.v. exhibit on this stand is a special short single-decker bus, one of six for Great Yarmouth Corporation, which is mounted on a 16-ft. 4-in.-wheelbase A.E.C. Reliance chassis, with a rear overhang of only 5 ft. 9f in., giving an overall length of 28 ft. 3 in. Accommodation is provided for 39 seated passengers, all seats facing forwards except for

• a double seat over the nearside front wheel arch, which faces a pram compartment immediately behind the driver's compartment.

The styling introduced by the Duple Group two years ago will be retained for most of thir coach bodies at Earls Court this year, with detail improvements for the ,1965 season. Duple (Hendon) will show three coaches on Stand 38. comprising a 37-seat Bella Vega on Bedford S85 chassis with GA.220 standard luxury seating, a 49-seat Vega Major on Bedford VAL., and a 49-seat Mariner on Thames 36 chassis. The Mariner is a development of the Marauder coach body, the standard seating capacity being 52.

On the Duple (Northern) stand (37) will be a 49-seater Commander coach on the new Daimler Roadlincr chassis. The Commander was originally introduced last year for Leyland Leopard or A.E.C. Reliance chassis, and the Show example will be a modified version for rear-engined chassis. Sealed windows and forced ventilation will be a feature of this coach. Alongside it will be a 42-seat version of the 5I-seat Continental body on an A.E.C. Reliance chassis fitted with Chapman reclining seats, and a 37-seat version of the Firefly on a Thames 30 chassis.

Service bus bodies on lighter chassis designed for country and school bus duties are the speciality of Duple (Midland), who are showing three examples on Stand 46. Two of these are 42-seaters, one a double-skin., all-metal body on Thames 30 chassis. and the

other. for more utilitarian work, a singleskin body on Bedford SB5 chassis. The third bus is a 21-seater on Bedford .I2.SZ.10 chassis.

One of the controversial Leyland Atlanteans for Coventry Corporation will be exhibited by Willowbrook on Stand 45. The all-metal body seats 76 passengers and is 30 ft. 0+ in. long by 8 ft. wide and 14 ft. high. Also on the Willowbrook stand will he a 47-seat, dualpurpose coach body on Leyland Leopard chassis for the Yorkshire Traction Co. Ltd. A Deans air-operated, coach-type door is fitted at the front.

On the Harrington stand (44) will be two full-sized coaches, one a restyled Legionnaire named the Mark II, mounted on a Thames 36 chassis, and the other a 1965 version of the Grenadier 36 coach body designed for underfloor-engined chassis and mounted, in this case, on a Leyland Leopard chassis. Roof quarter lights are fitted to the Grenadier, which has forced-air ventilation at the front bulkhead, whilst the Legionnaire Mark If

has forced-air ventilation at the cant rail as a new standard feature. The third Harrington vehicle will be a p.s.v. conversion of the Cornmer 1500 passenger shell, with seating for 12 passengers.

Following their modest come-back at the last Show, Strachans (Stand 33) will have two buses inside Earls Court and one in the Demonstration Park. Largest of the buses inside Earls Court will be a 36-ft. Pacesetter B.ET, demonstrator on A.E.C. Reliance chassis. The 49/53seater body is built to the latest British

Electric Traction Co. specification and incorporates the new Clayton Dewandre U.H.V. (underfloor heating, ventilating and demisting) system adopted as standard by the B.E.T. for new singledeck vehicles, One of the 45-seat, frontentrance, central-exit single-deckers on I.eyland Leopard chassis for West Hartlepool Corporation will form the second passenger exhibit on the Strachans stand.

The U.H.V. system is also employed in a 50-seat Marshall body on the new Daimler Roadliner rear-engined singledecker chassis, to be shown on the Daimler stand, whilst on their own stand (39) -Marshall will exhibit a 53-seat Camagna body to B.E.T. specification, mounted on an A.E.C. Reliance chassis and in the colours of City of Oxford Motor Services Ltd.

A new body on the Leyland Panther chassis will be shown on the Alexander stand (49) in the livery of Glasgow Corporation Transport. Although 36 ft. long, the front-entrance, central-exit body seats only 42 passengers and is provided with an adequate number of stanchions to aid standing passengers when the bus is used on peak-hour duties. .

What is probably the most altered

styling on single-deck bodies at this year's Show will be found on the Plaxton stand (32), where the exhibits will include an air-conditioned Panorama on Leyland Leopard chassis. • The windows of the Panorama are even deeper than before, this being achieved by employing a very shallow roof of Continental appearance. The front of the coach has also been modified with a completely new design of grille, executed in stainless steel. Two Embassy IV coach bodies will also be on display—a 52-seater on Bedford VAL chassis and a 41 -seater on Bedford SB5, larger panoramic windows also being a feature of these bodies.

The tendency to break away from the "big box" appearance of modern double-deckers will be even more evident at the Show this year, and a rather interesting half-way" movement—the employment of curved screens at the front of the lower saloon whilst the upper saloon frontal appearance remains relatively unaltered--will be seen on some exhibits, including a 76-seat Atlantean for Salford Corporttion on the Weymann stand (42). A modified staircase with two passing platforms is a feature of this bus. Alongside it will be a 41 -seater single-decker built integrally with a Finnish Sisu B76 chassis, this lefthand-drive bus employing an extensive use of welded construction.

Another bus with wrap-round windows at the front of the lower saloon only will be a 70-seat Fleetline for Leeds City Transport on the Roe stand (40), which will also incorporate a staircase with two passing platforms. A 45-seat, frontentrance, central-exit body on Leyland Panther 36-ft. chassis for Hull Corporation will also be shown on the Roe stand.

A 72-seat, forward-entrance Routemaster for the Northern General Transport Co. Ltd. will take the place of the traditional London Transport bus at the Show and will be seen on the Park Royal stand (41). One of the first bodies to be built on the new Leyland Panther Cub rear-engined chassis will also be on view on this stand, a 43-seater for Manchester Corporation with double entrance. Curved styling for the front of both decks is employed on a Park Royal-bodied 77-seat Atlantean for Sheffield Corporation which will be on

show on the Leyland stand (88).

Another vehicle fitted with carved windscreens will be a 77-seat Atlantean for Nottingham Corporation on the Northern Counties stand (34). Saloon heating is by a Smiths Blower system with a Smiths 351 unit for demisting purposes. A 67-seat double-decker for the ,Western Welsh Omnibus Co. Ltd., 'mounted on an A.E.C. Renown chassis, and a 73-seat, forward-entrance doubledecker on Guy Arab V chassis for the Lancashire United Transport Co. Ltd. will complete the company's exhibits inside Earls Court.

Dennis are back in the bus market again, and a Loline double-decker with 68-seat body for the Aldershot and District Traction Co. Ltd. will be shown on the Metropolitan-Cammell stand (43). A 40-seat MCW/Leyland Olympic with front entrance and double central exit, designed for the South American market, will be on view alongside.

Martin Walter (Stand 62) will show two Utilabus models, one on a Bedford CAL chassis and the second on an Austin 12, together with a 12-seater Thames Utilabrake,
