At the resumed hearing at Glasgow last week, it was stated that the variation was sought for lime and fertilizer spreading and road making work. Evidence of vehicle shortage for lime spreading was given by Mr. D. Cumuski, sales representative of Daniel Riddell, Ltd. Mr. N. Carter, plant supervisor of Farrans Ltd., told Mr. Quin that construction work, in connection with the rebuilding of the A74 road, previously employing dumpers now required an increasing amount of road haulage.

A grant was made for four vehicles of approximately 15 tons, for road building materials on behalf of Farrans, Ltd., in connection with work on the A74 road, and agricultural lime and fertilizer for direct spreading in south Scotland.
