Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The Carrier Kids .

CCORDING to an indignant correspondent, the e regulation requiring the provision of a proper seat for a child carried on a bicycle is not enough; more personal care is needed. In the busy shopping centre of a country town he recently saw a little girl in the " armchair " carrier of a bicycle which was propped on a pedal against the kerb outside a shop.

The child was obviously used to this and seemed unperturbed, but a bicycle thus propped is liable, at the least knock, and sometimes without it, to overbalance. What chance would a child have of escaping some injury if this happened? Apart from this it might " panic " and run into the road!

Popularizing Leylands in Sweden

ARLIER this year some 10,000 bus and lorry drivers in Sweden were invited to submit their opinions to a 12-point questionnaire on various aspects concerning commercial vehicles. The prize for the best four answers was a 10-day free trip to England, and last week a representative of The• Commercial Motor interviewed the prizewinners at their London hotel.

The basic idea of the "competition "—devised by Forenade Bil, A.B., Malmo, Swedish agents for Leyland Motors, Ltd.—is to popularize Leyland vehicles in Sweden, where there are now about 100 in operation. It is too early yet to pronounce judgment on its success, but the Swedish concern and Leylands deserve commendation for both the originality of the idea and the effort to promote the sale of British vehicles. It is a scheme which, basically, might well be copied by others.
