Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

There's no doubt that the use of LED lighting is increasing as buyers come to appreciate the benefits of this technology. Many manufacturers are avoiding this option because it's more expensive at the build stage, but LED technology is now so strong and reliable that it could be argued that over the long term it's the cheaper option. Manufacturers including Invertec and Labcraft confidently claim LEDs won't break, so the higher initial cost will be more than covered by the lack of downtime normally associated with maintaining lighting systems.

They also claim that LED lighting is also the simplest force of illumination because once jt is fitted, operators can forget about it. This view is more accepted on the Continent and in the US, but things may be about to change in the UK. Grote Industries from the US and the European Rinder Group have joined forces to produce the Luxi range for the UK. These companies are the biggest manufacturers in their respective territories; they clearly see growth potential in the UK market.

Dun-Bri Group, the UK's leading distributor of interior lighting systems, has seen the market change over the past few years. Sales director Andy Strath says: "it's understandable that people stick with what they know, but choosing a lighting system at the specification or build stage doesn't always take into account the needs of the driver or operator at the sharp end.

"Downtime isn't always factored into the equation but it's a major issue for companies that need to keep the wheels turning. Developments in LED lighting mean that I see this type of system being used more and more on our roads due to one simple benefit — with LED lighting you can just 'fit and forger."
