• The main rate of corporation tax will be cut by 2p in the pound to 28% next year.
• There will be a review of the taxation system for the self-employed with a view to making it easier for them to pay taxes.
• Defra will receive a ELI-bn budget increase in the next three years to tackle climate change issues. Legislation about carbon targets is due next year.
• The government proposes an increased use of the auction of carbon allowances to help the country move to a lower carbon footprint.
• Air passenger duty will be replaced by tax to be paid per plane in November 2009. A consultation is planned to look at the impact on freight.
