Many parts of the country have enjoyed the driest September/October for 40 years. A spin-off from this has been the ease with which the major roadworks can be carried out, unhampered by rain and fog. Here are the main motorway repair and maintenance schemes
under way this week. The list is compiled by CM from information supplied by the Department of Transport, the Automobile Association and the BBC's Motoring Department.
MI Hertfordshire There are width restrictions on both carriageways between junctions 7 and 9 (M10 and A5/Harpenden) with limited access at junction 8 (Hemel Hempstead).
MI Bedfordshire Contraflow working is in operation near junction 11 (Dunstable).
MI Buckinghamshire There is contraflow working on the MI between junctions 14 and 15 (Milton Keynes and Northampton). Ml Leicestershire
Lane closures will slow traffic between junctions 19 and 21 (M6 and Leicester). There are also contraflow workings between junctions 22 and 23 (Ashby and Loughborough).
MI Derbyshire Carriageway workings north of junction 27 (Mansfield) are causing delays.
M2 Kent
Long-term works between junctions 5 and 7 (Sittingbourne and Canterbury) will last until the end of the year.
M4 Berkshire There are contraflow workings between junctions 12 and 13 (Reading and Newbury).
M4 Wiltshire Between junctions 16 and 17 (Swindon and Chippenham) there is more contraflow working.
M4 South Wales There is contaflow in operation between junctions 34 and 35 (Uantrisant and Bridgend).
M5 Worcestershire The contraflow between junctions 4 and 5 (Brornsgrove and Droitwich) is still in operation.
M6 Cheshire Between junction 16 (Stoke) and Sandbach Service Area there is contraflow working.
M6 Lancashire There is contraflow working north of junction 32 (M55/A6 Preston).
M6 Cumbria
Between junctions 40 and 41 (Penrith and Wigton) there is contraflow working. MI I Essex
The major works at the M11/Al2 interchange (Redbridge roundabout) are at a crucial stage this weekend. Eastbound traffic on the Al2 is to he diverted up and then down part of the M11.
M18 South Yorkshire There are width restrictions between junctions 6 and 7 (Thorne and M62 junction) and no northbound entry at junction 6.
M20 Kent Roadworks continue to cause delays between junctions 7 and 8 (Maidstone and Bearsted).
M25 Hertfordshire There are lane restrictions between junctions 18 and 19 (Rickmansworth and Bunton Bridge).
M40 Oxfordshire There is single lane working in each direction between junctions 6 and 7 (Watlington and Wallingford).
M50 Hereford
Contraflow working is in operation between junctions 2 and 3 (Ledbury and Newent).
