Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Warehouses • The Department of the Environment commissioned consultants Colin Buchanan and Parbiers and EDU International to carry out research into warehouse trends. The purpose was to see how warehousing has developed over the past decade and how it is likely to develop in the future.

The consultants' report is now available. Its main findings are: 0 The significance of warehousing and distribution is gen erally under-rated — it needs more attention.

0 Warehousing employs 11/4 million people and this total is (cowing faster than manufacturing employment.

Warehousing space has expanded more rapidly than offices, shops or manufacturing industry — warehouse floorspace has expanded by 40% since 1976.

Looking to the future, the report has 26 recommendations, which include making provision for warehousing along motorway corridors and Lifting excessive planning conditions.

A full copy of the report, Warehouse Development Trends, is available from either EDU International at 38 Tower Street, Winchester 5023 8TA, phone (0962) 67376, or from Colin Buchanan and Partners at 59 Queens Gardens, London W2, phone 01-258 3799.

The original research cost £40,000; the 200-page report is priced at 215 including postage and packing.

M25 map

• With the M25 about to come to its slightly delayed and untidy completion, the Ordance Survey has already published an M25 and London map, showing the orbital motorway in its entirety.

It is on a scale of 1.26km to lOmm (two miles to one inch) and shows the M25 junctions, with London through-routes highlighted.

Also included are a gazetteer of London place names and inset maps of the four major airports in the South East. In case you should get hopelessly lost, there is a LondOn Underground map, too.

Ordnance Survey: M25 and London map. Price 22.
