• In a speech on Tuesday Volvo Trucks (GB) managing director Bernt Brandtzaeg launched an attack on the costs of exhibiting at the Motor Show. Having pointed out that almost all the value of the show to a manufacturer like Volvo is in the first few trade days, Brandtzaeg went on to say: "We have literally thousands of the general public on to the stand, and we are glad to do a useful PR job for the industry — but that is not our main reason for being here." Brandtzaeg added that while every visitor to the show was a potential car buyer, few were potential truck buyers yet the cost of exhibiting was the same for both car and truck manufacturers. He says: "It is becoming increasingly difficult to justify the expense . we fear that unless the organisation of the British show is thought through again for its commercial vehicle exhibitors, to provide a more just solution to this problem, we must re-examine the question of our participation."
