APROVISIONAL Metropolitan Area sectional board was set up at the first meeting of passenger-vehicle operators called by Associated Road Operators, in London, on Tuesday night. Major J. B. Elliott, chairman of tha•Association, presided. The provisional committee is as follows:— Miss V. Culverhouse (Venture Transport [Hendon], Ltd), Messrs. W. L. Speight (Geo. Ewer and Co., Ltd.), D. M. MacCormack, F.C.A. (A. 'limpson and and Sons, Ltd.), R. Birch (Birch Bros., Ltd), J. Britten (Britten's Coaches), F. A. Flin (MT. Co. [Motor Coaches], Ltd)., J. H. Lowe (Grey Coaches), A. H. Bourne (Bourne and Balmer, Ltd.), G. Nowell (General Travel Agency [London], Ltd.), R. Neal (Eclipse Coaches), J. McCredy and R. Duval (Duval and Sons).

The committee is to meet to-day (Friday) and is due to discuss the questions of securing amendments to fares, when requred, and fixing privateparty rates.

At Tuesday's meeting, Mr. R. W. Sewill, M.A., M.Inst,T., national director of A.R.O., declared, in connection with the forthcoming General Election, that it was unfair that any Government should be granted a mandate for five years on international policy. Operators must take the opportunity of impressing upon the Government the importance of support for road transport, for in the near future the whole country might be dependent upon it.

The speaker criticized the bright outlook for road transport suggested by Sir Cyril Hurcomb in his presidential address to the Institute of Transport.
