Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WE give below brief outlines of a number of new machines that is to be included in manufacturers 1936 programmes and of which particulars have only just come to hand. Our next issue is the New Models Special Nurnber and, in this, fuller descriptions will be included. It will also contain details of further new vehicles and summaries of the features of other 1936 chassis that have already been announced.

Crossley Motors, Ltd., Gorton, Manchester, will .exhibit at Olympia a double-decker 'chassis in which is incorporated an entirely new automatic

gearbox. In the operation of this device all manual gear-changing is dispensed with, the vehicle being controlled by the use of only the accele

rator and brake pedals. The 'gear, furthermore, eliminates all -shocks or

overloading of the trnsraisii.oh. •

A new passenger chassis and-anew goods vehicle are to be offered by the Gilford Co., Ltd., Park Royal, London, N.W.10. The former is a 32-39seater, having a body space of 23 ft. 3 ins. It is available with a petrol power unit or a Gardner four-cylindered oil engine. The other Gilfgrd • is a

4-tonner weighing under 21 tons unladen. In this case it will be available with either the Perkins Leopard or the Gardner 4 LK power unit.

An addition to the range of goods chassis marketed by the International Harvester Co. of Great Britain, Ltd., 259, City Road, London, E.C.1, is the C-35 model—a 31-4-tonner. It will resemble in general layout the previous C-40 4-ton chassis, which has been modified and re-rated as a 5-tanner. On the long-wheelbase International C-30 3-tonner, Lockheed brakes are now fitted as standard equipment.

In the 1938. programme of John I. Thornycroft and Co., Ltd., Basingstoke,there is a new range of maximum-load four-wheelers, which includes four chassis, known as Trustymodels. Their -differences are in respect of the power units installed, fouror sixcylindered petrol or oil engines being available. Model PE/AC4 which has a four-cylindered petrol unit, with a platform body and cab weighs less than 4 tons.

Several improvements have been made to the Thornycroft oil engine. Increased power and lower consumption have been obtained by utilizing a

Ricardo cylinder head. The fourand six-cylindered oil engines now have respectively outputs of 85 b.h.p. at 2,200 r.p. M. and100 b.h.p. at 2,100 r.p.m. In the case of the petrol engines the corresponding b.h.p. figures are 67 b.h.p. and 97 b.h.p

In addition to the T.S.M. passenger chassis that will be exhibited, T.S. Motors, Ltd., Maidstone, will display an 8-ton four-wheeled goods chassis. This is an entirely new model that is to be included in the company's 1936 manufacturing programme. , Having a wheelbase of 14 ft. 6 ins., the new machine is of the forwardcontrol type, and weighs, unladen., under 4 tons. The engine installed is a petrol unit developing 75 b.h.p, at 2,200 r.p.rn. It is equipped with a Solex downdraught carburetter and is supported on Floate?c rubber mountings.

Considerable attention has been paid to the suspension system, the front and rear semi-elliptic springs being respectively 42 ins. and 60 ins, long. Braking in effected by the Dewandre
