An important meeting of the Commercial Motor Users Association was held in Manchester last week, as the result of which it was officially stated that there was a feeling that real progress was beingmade with regard to rates for London-Manchester traffic.

The meeting originated the previous week on the receipt of reports that, whereas El a ton had generally been charged, for some time, for transport from the northern city to the Metropolis, 17s: 6d. was being accepted in certain quarters. Meanwhile, several of the " Londontraffic hauliers," as they are known, joined the C.M.U.A. The Association agreed officially to inquire into the details of rate-cutting in the hope of reintroducing a more economic scale.
