• More than 10% of trucks stopped as part of last week's Operation Mermaid were issued with immediate prohibitions. Last Friday (12 November) Vehicle Inspectorate staff halted the journeys of 238 of 2,019 vehicles checked. Delayed prohibitions were issued to 264 vehicles. As usual, brakes and tyres were the most common prohibited defects.

Traffic examiners checked 1,816 vehicles, including 101 foreign-registered Ins. Of these, 356 offences required investigation and 437 warnings were given while 17 prohibitions were issued to drivers of foreign vehicles for hours, record and overloading offences.
