Trowel! Services on the M1 in Nottinghamshire. Since the end of September, 18 curtainsiders have been slashed open and a variety of highvalue goods has been stolen.

PC Malcolm Jarvis of Nottinghamshire Police says that in one incident a consignment of ladies underwear worth more than £30,000 was stolen. "It's not one person," he says. It has to be a team because of the quantities stolen."

Doherty Transport of Londonderry, Northern Ireland had 21 mountain bikes worth more than £2,000 stolen at the end of last month. Owner Don Doherty says: "We had 132 bikes there so they obviously didn't have room for the rest. The driver was sleeping in the cab."
