Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Burnley-based haulier Eric Howell had Just finished reading last week's CM news story on Federation Freight when his fax machine began to ring. "It was an amazing coincidence," he says, "but out came a Federation Freight-headed fax offering me two jobs" As reported in CM over recent months, Federation Freight—which is now using a new address in Wembley Park, Middlesex—has a history of offering hauliers excellent rates but withholding payment for completed work. It currently owes hauliers thousands of pounds.

Last week Wolverhampton haulier Richard Lavender reported that he was owed some £4,000 for work carried out between July and September, while Hexham haulier Glenn Brownlee told CM he was owed around £4,500.

The fax to Howell, who runs CEO Trucking with a fleet of 10 vehicles, offered two reefer jobs, from Valencia to Preston and from Barry to London.

"I've had a couple of phone calls from Federation Freight over the past few months and only turned them away because I didn't have the capacity to take on the work they were offering," says Howell.

This is the first time they've faxed me, but I'm glad I had read the story in CM.

"It would appear that they're working their way through some kind of haulage directory."
