• Experience from the US and off-highway has led Cummins to issue a service note about engine starting procedures. According to the company there have been instances where repeated high revving on engine start-up has led to bearing damage.
Advice in the note recommends: oil filters should be filled before fitting to prevent dry running: oil pressure should be allowed to build up before revving the engine; unmetered ether starts should be avoided; and the engine should not be allowed to over speed on the overun.
