A few days ago the Home Secretary received a deputation representing taxicab owners, which stressed the need for an increase in the initial charge of 6d, for hiring a taxicab in the metropolis. It is learnt that they suggest that the minimum charge should be increased to 9d., because petrol has twice risen since the present rates were put into force.
