Shell is trying to create "the best LPG infrastructure in the UK" by bringing LPO refuelling to 200 of its sites within the next 19 months. Autogas, as the project is known, is part of a joint venture with Calor Gas.
MITSUBISHI APPUANCE
The first Canter to be built as a fire engine is to start work with the Highland and Islands Fire Brigade. The Canter 63 will operate from Barra in the Outer Hebrides. It carries six firefighters with their kit, 1,000 litres of water and a 2,300Ipm Godiva pump.
PLANT DISCS
King Trailers claims to have built the UK's first disc-braked plant trailer Scariff Plant Hire's triaxle trailer is fitted with 19.5in wheels and IMS/SAF suspension. Michael O'Reardon, MD of Scariff, reckons that discs offer a 30-40% improvement in stopping distance, and longer replacement intervals.
VOLVO PROFITS
Volvo has reported thirdquarter profits in 2000 of £92m--up 13% on the same period last year.
