Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The great block exemption debate rumbles on with the news that the European Commission has adopted the text of a regulation extending for seven to 10 years the block exemption for exclusive distribution and servicing agreements for motor vehicles—the present regulation expires at the end of June.

The new rules will greatly widen dealer and consumer choice through several changes, including allowing dealers to dis tribute more than one make of vehicle, obtain equivalent spare parts from other manufacturers and giving adequate access to technical details for repairs.

The text will be presented to the Member States Consultative Committee and will be finalised by the Commission before the end of May.

The effects in real terms are not known but Workshop & Aftermarket Management should have more news next month.
