MR. C. W. G. ELLIFF has been appointed to the board of the Devon General Omnibus and Touring Go, Ltd., in place of MR. J. C. CHAMBERS who resigned his directorship in consequence of being called up for active service.
MR. T. E. THOMAS, general manager (operation) of the London Passenger Transport Board, is to continue as president of the Institute of Transport for the year commencing October 1, 1940. The vice-presidents elected for the same year are :—Sir Charles H. Bressey, C.B., C.B.E. ; Messrs. Ashton Davies, C.V.O., 0.B.E. ; R. Kelso ; H. H. Mauldin ; E. J. Missenden, 0.B.E. ; R. Stuart Pilcher.
SIR ALFRED HURST, K.B.E., C.B., has been appointed Under-Secretary for Mines in place of SIR ALFRED FAULKNER, C.B., C.B.E., who has been seconded for special duties in connection with the war supplies of petroleum products. The new Under-Secretary has been temporarily released from his position as Chairman of the London Builders' Conference to enable him to accept this appointment.
MR. J. R. WILLIAMS, M.B.E., has been promoted to the position of Assistant Transport Commissioner for the North Wales Region. He succeeds MB. T. G. JONES, who has returned to the Ministry of Transport's headquarters. Before his new appointment, Mr. Williams was chief assistant to the Transport Commissioner for the NorthEastern Region, Major F. S. Eastwood, under the Ministry's war-time scheme of organization. Up to the outbreak of war, he was clerk to the Yorkshire Licensing Authority. He has been with the Ministry of Transport since its inception in 1919.
