A HAULAGE BOSS, who was put under -immense strain" due to a debilitating eye problem, has escaped with a formal warning at a South Eastern and Metropolitan Traffic Area public inquiry.
A hearing in Eastbourne heard how Martyn Moseley, of Leyton, east London-based Trident Continental Transport, had scaled back the operation between February 2006 and August 2008, coinciding with a period when he had been "registered blind".
Chris Ballantyne, vehicle examiner for VOSA, told the hearing that between 2006 and 2008, Trident — authorised for five vehicles and five trailers — had picked up six prohibition notices for vehicles with brake problems and loose wheelnuts. Between April 2004 and March 2009. the company had recorded an initial pass rate at annual vehicle test of 50% against a national average of 67.5%.
Moseley. who is also director of the Coventry-based Midas International, said: "In 2006,1 shut down the operation lin Leyton I because of my ill-health. We s up because I was undergo treatment and had about hal dozen operations."
Previously, outside experts 1 analysed Trident's tacho ch but this was now done by staff.
Deputy Traffic Commissio Mary Kane issued a fon warning and ordered Moseley undertake an 0-licence refres course. as well as introduce fort annual training procedures.
The firm undertook to have tacho charts analysed by a ti party, as well as undergo inspection from a vehicle exami within 32 months.
