rogenforownfarbi.co.uk NORTH-WESTERN Deputy Traffic Commissioner (DTC) Simon Evans has rejected an application from Centurion Logistics, which has links to Mike Spence Ltd, for an interim licence of one vehicle and one trailer, saying he needs more data about the firm's financial standing.

At a public inquiry (PI) on 12 March, the DTC heard how Mike Spence, who was applying to be Centurion's transport manager, ran two trucks on another firm's 0-licence after his own business went into liquidation.

The PI was told that Spence, ex-director of Warrington, Cheshire-based Mike Spence Ltd, which folded last September with large debts, struck a deal with John Carr (Liverpool), to enable him to carry on working as a haulier between September 2009 and March 2010. The PI was considering a licence bid for four vehicles and four trailers from Centurion Logistics, whose director is Michelle Spence.

Mike Cunningham, on behalf of Spence.

said his client had thought he was -doing nothing wrong at all" until the start of this month, when he realised his arrangement had been a breach of the system.

Cunningham added: "John Carr is incensed with what has happened. and that it may also have brought themselves onto VOSA's radar."

VOSA traffic examiner Joanne Henharen said she visited Mike Spence Ltd in May and June last year, reqesting tacho records for one driver covering November 2008 to January INN, but the firm had been unable to procluce these, Spence said: -The charts were put in a room, and I believe they were destroyed in error by a lad we asked to clean out the room."

Evans asked that Centurion provide evidence of future maintenance arrangements before considering a full 0-licence application at a hearing on 22 April.

Centurion Logistics has no connection with Essex firm Centurion Transport Ltd.
