• Bays for buses and taxis and loading bays for goods vehicles are included in plans which the GLC has for making the Strand a one-way street on completion of the Maiden Lane route, part of the Covent Garden redevelopment scheme.
• A plea to subsidize bus fares for 65,000 old-age pensioners in Norfolk has been rejected by the county social services committee because it would cost over £100,000 a year. The director of social services, Mr William Shaw, said that although they had every sympathy for old people faced with three bus fare rises in the past 13 months, the committee just hadn't the money to meet the hill.
