• Mr Donal Bannatyne, partner in a haulage contracting firm on the Island of Arran in the Firth of Clyde, says his company's charges will have to rise by as much as 20 per cent. This decision follows a rise in freight charges imposed by the Caledonian Steam Packet Co on services to the island. Said Mr Bannatyne: "We were already planning a five per cent rise, but the increase on the freight is so high, 20 per cent will be necessary to cover costs."
