Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Regarding the article in Commercial Motor on the recent jail sentences given for truck theft, I very much support the views expressed by Ken Longthorne. While I am not aware of the specific details of this case, we all know that truck theft has been a growing criminal activity with international connotations and is having a serious adverse impact on operators. I think this is a serious matter that merits stronger focus by the courts to support the good work being done by the police.

Perhaps this is an issue that deserves more attention in the press and from industry associations, as well as better guidance from the relevant authorities. Certainly, this judgement by Manchester Crown Court is unlikely to deter those still involved with these crimes.

R Heather Managing Director, Foden Trucks.
