Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• So J Garlick wants the police to wear light blue jackets (CM 16-22 May) because he assumes that a truck driver who slows down when someone steps off the kerb, is doing so because he is mistaking them for a police officer due to the colour of their jacket.

Is it not conceivable that as a safe, conscientious professional the LGV driver was slowing down to avoid hitting a pedestrian that just happened to be wearing a particular colour of jacket.

I can't help thinking of the consequences if J Garlick's suggestion was taken up; truck drivers nationwide slowing down when light blue jacketed people step off the kerb, thinking it's the police. Oh, and of course a letter to Commercial Motor suggesting a change of colour for police officers jackets from J Garlick? D Trumper
